ASIAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The Asian Football Confederation has awarded this since 1994. Any Asian player can win the award. A list of finalists is announced before the winner is awarded with the prize in a presentation. The results in 2003 are:

Mahdavikia had a good season, helping Hamburg to fourth in the Bundesliga for 2002/03. For the other finalists Chaiman had performed well in the Asian Champion's League for BEC Tero Sasana and Shatskikh had finished top goalscorer in the Ukraine league with Dynamo Kieve.
