ASIAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The Asian Football Confederation has awarded this since 1994. Any Asian player can win the award. A list of finalists is announced before the winner is awarded with the prize in a presentation. The results in 1999 are:

Ali Daei won the award after impressive performances for Hertha Berlin in the European Champions League. Hidetoshi Nakata, the Japanese star, failed to win his third consecutive award. Sun Wen from China became the first woman to be nominated for the award. Previous winners of the award are:
