Notes              : Attracted attention from Manchester United and Juventus after being named Player of the tournament in an U/16 tournament in Portugal. This attention was proved justified after seven goals which led Spain to win the European U/16 Championships later on in 2001. He signed with Atletico Madrid in 1998 after attempts by Barcelona and Real Madrid to steal him. His buy-out clause is large for a player of his age. He has scored an incredible amount of goals for the Atletico youth teams and was even promoted to their first team at the age of seventeen in June 2001 whilst they struggled in Spain's lower divisions. Scored four goals to help Spain win the European U/19 Championships in 2002. In 2002/03 Torres scored thirteen goals in twenty-nine games in the top division of Spain.
