This award is chosen by journalists, originating in 1998 and can be given to any player originating from the Oceania region. This includes French international, Christian Karembeu who came from New Caledonia. The results in 1999 are:

Harry Kewell has been in outstanding form for Leeds showing that he has the potential to be a great player.
