PROJECT-40
Project-40 Overview
Project-40 is a joint venture between Major League Soccer and US Soccer to provide young American players with the amount of professional games needed to help them reach the national team. The original goal was to be able to compete with the top countries in the world and to win both the 2000 Olympics and the 2010 World Cup.
Project-40 signees earn the minimum annual MLS salary ($24,000) during their initial season and are awarded a five-year academic package covering tuition (not to exceed $27,000) by the United States Soccer Federation Foundation. Each team should have one to three Project-40 players on their rosters during the season. During the regular season, Project-40 players train with their assigned MLS teams and play matches on the weekend with either their MLS squad or the US Pro-40 which competes in the A-League.
