Notes              : "Mido" became Full Egyptian international at the age of seventeen. He also helped the Egyptian U/20 side reach the World Youth Cup. Hossam moved to Gent after three goals in four games for Zamalek in the 1999/00 season. He became a regular at Gent and attracted attention from larger clubs such as Ajax and Anderlecht. Was named Belgium's discovery of the Year for 2000/01 after eleven goals in 21 games. He eventually chose to join Ajax and helped them to the Dutch league and cup double in his first season in 2001/02. Hossam scored twelve goals during the league success. He was named as the best Young African Player for 2002 by CAF and was third in the African Player of the Year award. However a conflict with Ajax coach Ronald Koeman led to Hossam being demoted to the reserves and then loaned out to Celta Vigo in March 2003 for the remainder of the season.
