Notes: He first came to prominence as a youngster with Southampton, scoring a hat-trick on his debut as a 17-year old against Arsenal in 1988 before moving to Blackburn for a then-British record of £3.6m in 1992. He helped Blackburn Rovers win an unlikely Premier League triumph in 1994/95. He then completed a then-world record £15m move to Newcastle in July 1996. He suffered serious injury in 1997 but recovered to keep on scoring. Shearer scored five goals at Euro 96 taking the Golden Boot award. He then became the England captainand scored twice in the 1998 World Cup Finals. He retired from the international scene after Euro 2000 having scored 30 goals in 63 games for his country.
