EUROPEAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR
This award begun in 1956 by France Football magazine. Before 1995 only European players playing in Europe were eligible but since then non-European players have also been declared eligible. The results in 2001 are:

Michael Owen won the award after helping Liverpool to a cup treble of League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 2001. He also scored key goals to help England qualify for the World Cup. Raul starred for both Spain and Real Madrid in 2001 whilst Oliver Kahn was a key player in Bayern Munich winning the German league and the European Champion's League.
